Hair loss prevention for young men.

Hair loss is one of the worst things about growing up as a man. Hair loss(androgenic alopecia) was once something people thought was genetic and that they just couldn’t control. It’s true that hair loss is genetic, but there are definitely ways that you can manage your hair loss. The most well-known hair loss treatment to date is the combination of finasteride and minoxidil. Finasteride is a 5ar inhibitor and minoxidil is a topical hair growth stimulant. Although finasteride and minoxidil are highly effective, they do come along with side effects. At the end of the day if you do care about your hair you will one day end up using finasteride and minoxidil. As a young man, there are stepping stones you can take before partially blocking your DHT production with a 5ar inhibitor or committing to the full-time use of minoxidil to prevent shedding. What will be discussed in this article is for younger men who are starting to get hair loss or those with moderate hair loss that want to opt for a natural substitute.

What is the issue with traditional hair loss methods? Although finasteride and minoxidil are the best ways to prevent hair loss, you may want to avoid exposing yourself to these medications at a young age. DHT is extremely important for the maturation of the male secondary sex characteristics, such as body hair, pelvic build, upper body mass, and penile length. Minoxidil is a great stimulant for hair growth and slows hair loss. The only issue is minoxidil is a lifetime commitment, if you stop minoxidil use, you will lose any hair gains made with minoxidil. Eventually, as men, if we want our hair we will have to resort to finasteride/minoxidil use. There are other ways to prevent hair loss before inhibiting DHT and fully committing to minoxidil use. Look at that as an advanced option. Hair loss is a game of prevention if we can slow down hair loss with fewer side affect ridden treatments, we can manage our hair loss in phases. As a young man dealing with hair loss, there is a better beginner option. This article will go in-depth into ways you can take steps to prevent hair loss at a young age without having to expose yourself to drugs while still maturing.

A hair loss regimen for young men. There are three things that make up this natural hair loss method, they have synergistic effects that create a great first step towards fighting hair loss. The three components are rosemary oil, ketoconazole shampoo, and micro-needling. Rosemary oil acts as a topical growth stimulant, ketoconazole shampoo topically inhibits androgens including DHT, and micro-needling allows blood flow to the follicles which may double your rosemary oil results. Reminder, these methods are for young men experiencing initial hair loss. If you are at an advanced stage of hair loss, you will need to use pharmaceuticals to gain ground back. This is meant for young men experiencing initial hair loss, who want to be proactive about it. Instead of sitting on the sidelines and waiting until advanced hair loss.

Why rosemary oil? Rosemary oil has been used anecdotally for over 100 years to treat hair loss. Phytochemicals within rosemary oil have the ability to suppress the 5-alpha-reductase activity(conversion to DHT), increase blood flow to the scalp, and lower oxidative dress. Camphor is one of the phytochemicals responsible for promoting hair growth. These three unique benefits of rosemary oil allow for it to be a low-risk way to combat hair loss. Rosemary oil is both a growth stimulant and has the ability to topically inhibit the 5-alpha-reductase activity. In numerous studies, rosemary oil has been shown to have similar effects as 2% minoxidil. Furthermore, by pairing micro needling with rosemary oil application we can possibly double the results! Micro-needling recruits blood flow and stem cells to the follicle which further promotes growth. Complete the regimen by using ketoconazole shampoo. Ketoconazole shampoo is another avenue in which we can slightly topically inhibit the 5-alpha-reductase activity. Good ketoconazole shampoos may also incorporate other topical anti-androgens such as caffeine, pumpkin seed, and peppermint. Batch 3: Rosemary Oil

How do I start? First things first, you will need to purchase the products. Now that you have all the ingredients, you can start your regimen. I prefer a 6-day regimen. You will micro-needle and apply the rosemary oil at night and wash your hair with ketoconazole shampoo the following morning. Before micro-needling/oiling, wet your hair and dry until slightly damp. Part your hair, so you can directly needle your scalp and repeat until you’ve finished the top of your head. Then part your hair again and apply the oil directly to your scalp and rub it in. You shouldn’t turn yourself into a greasy mess, use about 1-3ml of oil. After that sleep with the oil in your hair. Upon waking shower using the ketoconazole shampoo, massage it in gently, and let it rest for about 3-5 min. Do not shampoo and micro-needle/oil on the same day. Here is an example of the schedule I follow. Water indicates that you only wet your hair during showers.

Conclusion. Hair loss is a battle every man faces unless you are part of the genetically blessed. So unless you are in the 1% of the population that is blessed, you can either sit on the sidelines as your hair goes, or you can be proactive. In all cases, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The usual way hair loss is treated is through the use of finasteride and minoxidil. Although you may have to resort to finasteride in the future, it is dangerous to expose yourself to blocking DHT production systemically at a young age. DHT is vital for the maturation of the male secondary sex characteristics. Although minoxidil is a great hair loss treatment, its use must be permanent to prevent hair loss. Rosemary oil, micro-needling, and ketoconazole shampoo are low-risk ways to prevent hair loss at younger ages. So instead of sitting on the sidelines as your hairline fades, you can be proactive with a much lower risk profile set of treatments.
